South Canyon Creek, which is east of the project area, is hydrolo-
gically similar to Alkali Creek. Mining in this drainage basin is •
not planned at the present time.
3.3.7 Site Surface Hvdroloav
3.3.7.1 Colorado River
A surface water monitoring program was initiated on the Colorado
River on June 22, 1983, consisting of quarterly water quality
analysis and monthly field measurements. The monitoring station
location (CR-2) is shown on Figure 3.3-6. The water quality
samples have been analyzed by Core or Industrial Laboratories in
Denver, Colorado, the results of which are listed in Appendix
3.3-10. Field measurements included specific conductance, pH,
dissolved oxygen, and temperature and are listed in Appendix
3.3-11. A statistical analysis of the quarterly water quality
monitoring program is presented in Appendix 3.3-12. The statis- •
tical analysis was done on all data collected from the start of the
program until 1984. Flow estimates of the Colorado River were
obtained from the USGS at station number 09085100, just below
Glenwood Springs. Daily values of discharge, including the day
before and the day after sampling, are listed in Table 3.3-7 for
the quarterly sampling periods. The preceding and following daily
flows are included in the table to aid the analysis of flow
conditions in the river at the time of sampling, i.e., rising,
steady or receding hydrograph. The mean daily flow at the USGS
gage below Glenwood Springs is also included in Appendix 3.3-11 for
the day on which monthly field measurements were taken. Annual
Colorado River hydrographs for water years 1983 and 1984, are
included in Appendix 3.3-11. Flows were higher than normal in 1983
with the annual runoff about SOo higher than the mean annual runoff
of 3,250 cfs.

NCEC - Coal Ridge #1 3-40 ASC/1145/900301
