Converting inches to acre-feet:
2.25 inches water
Disturbed acreage =
0.]9 x 8.36
to be contained in sediment pond.
0.19 acre-feet water
3.0 acres excluding road
surfaces not in disturbed area
.57 acre-feet water
The proposed settling pond's design is adequate to hold precipitation
from a ]0 year-24 hour storm.
Only .57 acre-feet of water will be diverted into the sediment pond.
Care has been taken to minimize disturbance of the normal hydrologic balance in
both the mine plan area and the adjacent areas, therefore, preventing any
adverse, long-term changes in the hydrologic balance. Post-mine land use will
be limited to cattle grazing. The land the mine plan occupies is entirely on
the upslope and sees little actual grazing. However, the location of the
diversion channels have been designed to minimize any adverse impact that might
• occur during post-mining land use of the permit area.
Changes in water quality will be monitored on a schedule to be set in
accordance with regulations and as required by the Department of Health's Water
Quality permit.
Disturbed areas will be stabilized by land shaping where it is
necessary.
The temporary diversions will be constructed to safely pass peak
runoff, as specified. Diversion ditches will be constructed of earth and will
be lined with country rock.
Anne Baldrige of the MLRD has provided help in the design of the
emergency spillway, sediment pond and diversion channels. These recommenda-
tions will be followed. See attached letter.
When no longer needed, (during reclamations), these temporary diver-
. sions will be refilled with original material to meet the requirements of 4.06,
4.14 and 4.]5.
