and another 6 months to reclaim each phase. The next phase of mining will commence
while the prior phase is reclaiming. From the "Phasing Reclamation and Operations
Plan" approved by Eagle County, it is stated that "the maximum area of disturbance
allowed at any one time will be 30 acres, excepting the permanent facilities on Phase 1
and any access roads." Phase 1 is anticipated to begin June, 1998.
(f) Depth of mining varies from 0-25' below existing ground. The deposit to be mined
consists of mixed alluvium derived primarily from sedimentary rocks. According to
the SCS Soils Survey, the alluvium should consist of: stony sandy loam, stony loamy
coarse sand, gravelly clay loam, sand, gravel and cobbles. The depth of the
sedimentary deposit is anticipated to be deeper than the mining depth. The overburden
will generally have a high content of gypsum. The overburden may also contain a fine
sandy loam, gypsiferous shale, loamy sand, silt loam and clay loam. The overburden
depth can range from 0 inches to 60 inches. A portion of the overburden and topsoil
will be placed along the southern property boundary to provide a visual barrier from
the Highway 6 traffic.
(g) The primary commodities to be mined from this pit are sand and gravel. The intended
use of these sands and gravels include various grades of road base material, cement,
concrete and asphalt.
(h) It is not anticipated that any incidental products will be excavated from the site.
(i) If any subsurface water is encountered, the Division and the Office of the State
Engineer (OSE) will be notified immediately to determine the best course of action.
