T-, -ap
unit i5 on mountainsides. The native vegetation i5 mainly pinyon anC
juniper. Elevation rs 7,500 to 3,500 feet. The average annual
precipitation is 12 to 16 inches, the average annual air temperature
is 43 to 45 degrees F, and the average frost-free period .s :~5 to 115
tlays.
This unit is about 45 percent Casvare soil and about 35 percent
Teaspoon soil. The Casvare soil is on side slopes that are mainly
south and east-facing, and the Teaspoon soil is on side slopes that
era mainly north and west-facing..
Included in this unit is about 10 percent deep Bronell gravelly
sandy loam and about 5 percent deep Kerhayden gravelly sandy loam on
foot slopes and along drainageways. Also included is about 5 percent
dtrap Larand cobbly sandy loam under fir and aspen along drainageways.
The Casvare soil is shallow and wall drained. It formed in
residuum derived dominantly from granite, granodiorite, gneiss, and
gneissic matasedimentary rock. Slope is 20 to 50 percent. Typically,
thie surface layer is brown very stony loam about 3 inches thick over
grayish brown very gravelly loam about 3 ruches thick. The subsoil is
extremely gravelly sandy loam about 11 inches thick over soft
matasedimentary rock about 7 inches thick, Hard matasedimentary rock
i=. at a depth of 24 inches. Tha soil rs mildly alkaline to a depth ,~f
10 inches and moderately alkaline and calcareous below that tlepth.
The texture of the surface layer in some areas is very gravelly sandy
Icam or very gravelly loam.
Permeability of the Casvare soil is moderate or moderately rapid.
C Available water capacity is very low. Effective rooting depth is 6 to
20 ~ncnes. Runoff is rabid to very rapitl, and the hazard of water
erosion is high to very high,
~~~~
