Water Quality. <br />FS Ctarification/Revision: - - <br />Avoid operations dieing or directly after periods of heavy rein or wlnm sorts are wet. If ndting caused <br />by equipment or vehicles is observed, stop mechanical operations immediately. <br />The operator would be inquired ro reclaim aII dig sites by filling witir excavated material, recontoming, <br />replacing topsoil and seeding. <br />• All mining sport wilt be separated into two distinct pries: 1) topsorl and 2) general overburden. Topsor7 <br />will be considered the uppermost fom inches of mineral sort and any organic matter (e.g. litter m duff) <br />. above the mineral surface. The ropsor7 must be pried and clearly labeled. On all slopes greater than 10 <br />percent or sites within 250 feet of a riparian area, topsorl and overburden pries must have silt fencing <br />effectively installed down slope of the piles. Mining spoils must be placed immediately upslope.of dig <br />sites such that any eroded material would be captured by the excavation <br />• All dig sites above riparian canes (as defined in the 9A standards and gnidelines and the Forest <br />Riparian Inventory) writ be accessed firm upslope positions or along contour (when operator safety <br />permits) ro limit soil disturbance and raveling downslope and into riparian areas. <br />C. Cultural Resources, <br />FS Clarificafion/Revisiou: <br />• Tf a previously tmlmown site is discovered by either the operator or the Forest Service, mining <br />operations that could impact the new site would stop immediately until the site is evaluated by the <br />Forest Service and any needed mitigation measures are developed. <br />• If new proposed dig sites are proposed that are outside the project area, additional Heritage Resource <br />surveys, documentation and OAHP/SHPO concurrence would be xequued. <br />G. Hazardous Substances. <br />FS Clarification/Revision: <br />o Storage and use of hazardous materials or explosives is not aukhorized_ <br />o No chemicals or additives may be used in water used for washing minerals on site- Any fuels, <br />anrifreeze, solvents or potential hazardous materials must be properly stored ro contain any leaks, and <br />
