REVISED DRAFT
9-78 AP, AEA
84N--Retake - Un (Cabrini) - Rock Outcrop Complex, North Aspect
thin is a complex of shallow, rell drained soils and rock outcrop
oa north facing mountain sideslopes. They formed in stony loamy materials
derived from metamorphic and igneous rocks.
Average annual precipitation ranges from 17 to 19 inches. Mean
4anuel temperature is about 46° F. Frost free season ranges from 76 to
I25~days. Elevations range from 6500 to 7800 feet.
Retake makes up about 45 percent of the mapping unit and occupies
iidge~crests and sideslopes over soft bedrock. Un (Cabrini) soils occupy
the same landscape as Retake soils and make up about 20 percent of the
mapping unit over hard bedrock. Rock outcrop occupies ridge crests and
steeper sideslopes and makes up about 20 percent of the mapping unit.
r~ - Included are Curecanti, Hesperus, Lininger, and Trag soils. Cure-
canti soils lack bedrock above 40 inches depth and occupy toeslope fill
positions. Hesperus and Trag soils lack bedrock above 40 inches depth
aqd Qccupy small drainageways. Lininger soils have bedrock between 20
end k0 inches depth and occupy small coves and depressions, Total in-
clusions are usually less than 15 percent of the mapping unit area.
Retake soil is a shallow, well drained soil on mountain sideslopes
agd3'idges. It Formed in noncalcareous mixed material derived from
igneous and metamorphic rocks.
typically the surface layer is dark brown very stogy sandy loam about
12 Inches thick overlying soft bedrock.
~~~~ Permeability is moderate, and available water capacity is low.
Ti.Yfective rooting depth is less than 20 inches. Surface runoff is rapid,
sad erosion hazard is high. Shrink-swell potential is low. Depth to
soft tiedrock is less than 20 inches. Surfaces are very stony. Reaction
is neutral to slight]y acid.
Un (Cabrini) soil is a shallow, well drained soil on mountain side-
slopes and ridges.
