Section 1;16.24 (a) Continued.
• Storage, Redistribution and Revegetation (Flap 41).
To prevent slippage surfaces and promote root penetration, the spoil
will be scarified through a rough grading. This practice assures a
solid bond between the spoil and reapplied topsoil.
(b) Topsoil and other materials shall be redistributed in a manner that--
(1) Achieves an approximate uniform, stable thickness consistent with
approved postmining land uses, contours, and surface water drainage system;
(c") Prevents excess compaction of the topsoil; and
(3) Protects the topsoil from wind and water erosion before and after it is
seeded and planted.
•
Redistribution of topsoil to regraded areas will be accomplish<_d in
such z manner as to assure successful revegetation. Since all
available topsoil existing on areas to be disturbed will be stripped
and reapplied, it will be fully capable of supporting growth needed for
the proposed postmining land uses. Topsoilir.e, a~hen safety conditions
alloy:, will be conducted along the contour across all sites that will
be regraded.
Compaction will be alleviated through regrading as documented by Farmer
and P,ichardson (1976) with respect to infiltration rates in
southeastern t~~ontana, and chisel plowing.
kind and water erosion on applied topsoil prior to seeding ~•;ill be
minimized by the crust that forms on soils containing clays znd
• _~
516-16 Revised G4/22(E7
