"`r_-,~
%'
CORDILLERAN
826 21 % Road
Grand Junction, CO 81505
T: 970.263.7800
F: 970.263.7456
20. Per Rule 6.3.5(2) -Mine Plan Map: please outline and label the permit boundaries, label the
names of the owners of the surface of the affected area and the land within 200 feet of the
affected area, identify the owner of the substance to be mined, label features to be used in
connection with the mining operation (access road, soil and overburden stockpiles, waste rock
fills, impoundments and water diversions), and indicate the direction that material excavation will
proceed.
The Mine Plan Map has been revised to include the items discussed above.
Al! affected area and lands within 200 feet of the affected area are owned by the applicant, Chevron
Shale Oil Company. The substance to be mined is also owned by Chevron Shale Oil Company.
21. Please specify if the boreholes shown on the permit maps are existing, and if they are permanent
structures to be protected. Also specify if they are proposed features that are to be part of the
proposed reclamation.
The boreholes shown on the permit maps are existing. They are not permanent structures.
22. Per Rule 6.3.5(3) -Reclamation Plan Map: please indicate the area to be affected and subject to
revegetation applications, indicate the average thickness of growth medium to be replaced and
the replacement locations, and show details of the proposed pocking of the final slopes. Note -
With limited soil available for revegetation, it may be desirable to replace soil in the pocks and
concentrate revegetation efforts on establishing islands of vegetation rather than blanket
vegetation.
The Reclamation Plan Map has been revised to include the items discussed above.
Reclamation wilt begin by bringing the slope to fh to 1 v. The most reasonable way to attempt to reclaim
the site will be to use a track hoe to push down material from the top terrace down the face of the slope to
create a more favorable angle of repose. While the track hoe works back from the terraces it will create
pockets with its bucket to dissipate scouring from water erosion. These pockets will provide a collection
point for fine materials that will produce a more favorable seed bed. Pockets also increase the retention of
water on fhe slopes. Landscape materials salvaged during initial excavation of the site will be
mechanically and/or hand-placed to reinforce these pockets. Stockpiled salvaged topsoil will be
distributed across the pockets at a depth of approximately 2 to 6 inches. The size and frequency of the
pockets will be dependent upon the size and type of equipment used to create them.
We hope that this additional information will be sufficient to satisfy the DMRS requirements. Please
contact us with any additional questions, comments or suggestions you might have.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Amanda Jacobs ~~~
Staff Scientist
Cordilleran Compliance Services, Inc.
Attachments as described
cc: Sean Norris, Chevron USA
Cordilleran file No. 5574
Cordilleran Compliance Services, Inc.
Grand Junction, CO • Denver, CO • Casper, WY • Laramie, WY • Lander, WY
Environmental Consulting Engineers and Scientists
