• Species Identification:
In 1991 and 1992, voucher specimens were collected and confirmed or
identified by Dr. William A. Weber, retired Curator of the University of Colorado
herbarium as part of those studies. Most species that were identified during the 1993
study were the same as those collected in 1991 and 1992; those that were different were
easily identified. Nomenclature follows Dr. Weber's book Colorado Flora: Western
Slone, 1987, Colorado Associated University Press, Boulder, Co.
Statistical Evaluation:
The calculation of sample adequacy followed methods outlined on page IS of
the Division's Vegetation Guidelines except that the t-value used in the calculation of
Nmin was not 1.64 as recommended but rather was drawn from the double-tailed t
table at the 9030 confidence level for n-] degrees of freedom. Calculations used as part
• of the post-mining demonstration of revegetation success are consistent with methods
outlined on page 17 of the Division's Vegetation Guidelines (Guidelines for
Compliance with [.and Use and Vegetation Requirements of the Colorado Mined land
Reclamation Board for Coal Mining, t~ctober 1988), though because reclaimed area
comparisons were made with standards rather than with reference area means, actual
methods would have followed those outlined on pages 171 through 173 of Sokal and
Rohlf (1981), Biome :The PrinciRlgs and Practice of Statistics in Biolog~al Research
had a statistical comparison been necessary
4
