• 1991. Nomenclature follows Dr. Weber's book Colorado Flora: Western Sloes, 1987,
Colorado Associated University Press, Boulder, Co.
Statistical Evaluation:
The calculation of sample adequacy followed methods outlined on page 15 of
the Division's Vegetation Guidelines. Calculations used as part of the post-mining
demonstration of revegetation success are consistent with methods outlined on page 17
of the Division's Vegetation Guidelines (Guidelines for Compliance with Land Use and
Veeetation Requirements of the Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board for Coal
Mining. October. 1988), though because reclaimed area comparisons were made with
standards rather than with reference area means, actual methods follow those outlined
• on pages 171 through 173 of Sokal and Rohlf (] 981), Biometry: The Principles and
Practice of Statistics in Biolo,l;ical Research.
RESULTS
Total herbaceous cover at the combined Bear Mine sites 1 and 2 was sampled at
39.8% (see Table 2). Of that amount, perennial, non-noxious plant species contributed
35.7% absolute cover (89.7% of the total vegetative cover). Annual grasses
contributed 0.3% of the first hit cover total while annual/biennial forbs contributed
6.3%. Noxious weeds were intercepted only 1.5% (absolute cover) of the time,
slightly above last year's value of 0.6%. Twelve perennial grass species, one annual
grass species, six perennial fotb species, three annual/biennial forb species, and three
• noxious weed species were encountered during first hit cover sampling. One perennial
and one annual forb species were additionally encountered during multiple hit sampling
4
