t1 r. John Auffrey
7.
8
Dean Pit:

-4-
a. What is to be done with the "waste" stockpile?
produced as a part of the mining operation?
October 17, 1983
Is this material
b. The rectangular permit area shown on the map comprises 6.1 acres.
Furthermore, another shaded area labeled "previously disturbed" is shown
to the south of the outlined permit area. Keeping in mind that any
areas disturbed by you since July 1, 1976 must be reclaimed as a part of
this operation and that any older disturbed areas that are redisturbed
as apart of this operation must also be part of the permit area, please
clarify the total acreage to be permitted. This inay require
modification of the map.
Clodfelter Pit:
a. The planned location of all types of stockpiles (topsoil, gravel
and waste) should be either clarified in the text or shown on the snap.
Exhibit D
1. Wildlife - Please be advised that the recommendations made by the
Division of Wildlife for each of these seven operations are to be incorporated
into your permit applications. Specifically, protection from grazing until
vegetation has become established is important for all seven pits. Also, the
comments concerning the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pit are important
considering that the end use may involve wildlife habitat.
2. Soils - Although the enclosed maps show the general soils for these
pits, no descriptions of these soils are given. Please provide the Division
with the descriptions of the soils for each of these pits. The S.C.S. should
be able to provide these descriptions. This will allow me to more clearly
evaluate the recommended seed mixtures (and is an application requirement).
Fxhihit F
1. As a general rule, slopes should nut be left at greater than 3h:ly if
any re vegetation is to be successful and if erosion is to be prevented.
Therefore, I recommend that you commit to leaving reclaimed slopes at a slope
of 3h:ly or flatter for all seven operations.
2. In areas where dry creek beds are to be mined (the Adams and Smartt
Pits), a greater amount of detail should be given to the reclamation of the
site. The ends of the excavation in the dry creek bed should be left at
lOh:ly or flatter to avoid upstream and downstream erosion. Reconstructed
banks should be left at 3h:ly or flatter and topsoiled and revegetated as per
the plan. Any areas disturbed outside of the dry creek bed should be
reclaimed as per the S.C.S. plans. Please clarify your plans in this regard.
