Two are tertiary flakes, one of tan chert and the other of a white
chert material. The third if a piece of white chert shatter.
5RT876 (IF-5). All prehistoric sites are categorized as open lithic
scatters. Both historic sites are categorized as homesteads.
SRT868, a prehistoric site, and isolated finds 5RT872-SRT880 are all
recommended as not eligible for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP)
and no further work is recommended at any of these locations.
5RT863 and SRT866 are both historic ranch/farmstead sites that were owned
at one time by persons of some importance within this portion of Routt County.
However, neither of these parcels were contributing to the owners prominence.
Because of this, along with the fact that none of the buildings are architectur-
ally unique in any way, both sites are evaluated as not eligible for the NRHP.
Sites 5RT864, 5RT865, 5RT867, 5RT869, 5RT870 and 5RT871 are prehistoric
sites that show some potential for intact buried cultural materials. These sites
are all potentially eligible for the NRHP under Criterion "d". Until the areas
can be tested for deposition of buried artifacts, these sites should all be
avoided with ground disturbing activities, including vehicular traffic. Sites
5RT865, 5RT869, and 5RT870 are at the edge ar outside the presently permit
boundary and can be avoided. However, should future projects threaten these •
sites, evaluative testing is recommended.
