They are all on mesas or sides of valleys with
slopes away from the sites to be mined. These pit locations
do not have water delivery structures available, nor have they
a legal water right as a part of their ownership. All plant
life on these sites is native and is very drought resistant.
Depth to bedrock or mancos shale is always fairly shallow.
Topsoil
Topsoil at these pits is nearly non-existent. 1Yhatever
topsoil is available will be stockpiled at a location on each
pit where they can remain until reclamation takes place. In
those pits ~ehere mining has begun, stockpiled topsoil will
remain in its present location. Once this has been accomplished,
efforts at stabilizing these stockpiles of topsoil will proceed.
Water
All of these pits have no surface man-made water delivery
or spreader dike systems at the pit location or near the pit.
Further, there is no subsurface water anticipated in those
pits to be opened or those pits mined in the past. Annual
precipitation is less than 9 inches each year. Rainfall is
quickly absorbed through the gravel formations to the bedrock
or shale formations below. Dams, siltation structures, and
other water control facilities to handle surface or ground
water are not planned during the reclamation process.
Wilrilifa
The wildlife evaluation for each site from the fish and
game has indicated little to no impact on area wildlife.
Final Reclamation
Grading - Upon cessation of gravel extraction activities
in the pit, the final topography of the site will
be near level except where the pit floor approaches
the surrounding un-mined area. All slopes will be
graded to at least a 3:1 i`atio. (Horizontal to
vertical ratio). Stockpiled topsoil will be
