This pump is located approximately 250 feet
• from an established road. Dorchester Coal Company requests permission
to construct a light-use access road from the existing road to the pump.
The approximate location of this road is shown on Fioure 1.
This proposed road would be located on a gently sloping plateau. No
surface drainage channel will be crossed. Thus, no culvert will be needed.
A California-type drain is proposed at the junction of the light duty road
and the existing road.
Because of the gentle, steady slope of the terrain, no cut and fill will
be required for road construction. Topsoil along the road corridor and adjacent
to the pump area will be stripped to a detph of approximately 12 inches.
This topsoil will be hauled to the designated stockpiles west of the refuse
dump. Drainage ditches will be constructed along both sides of the road.
Ditches will connect with the drainage system of the existing road. Disturbance
of vegetation adjacent to the road cut will be minimized.
It is anticipated that road surfacing will consist of approximately 4-6"
of minus 3/4" gravel. CBR tests will be conducted, if necessary, to determine
the suitability of this proposed surface. Acid or toxic forming substances
• will not be used for road surfacing.
A typical cross-section for the proposed light-duty road is shown on Figure 2.
The approximate alignment of the road is shown on Figure 3.
It is contemplated that the mine dewatering system will remain in use for
the life of the mine. The proposed light-duty road will be closed to
vehicular traffic immediately following decommission and removal of the
mine dewatering equipment. The roadbed will be ripped, plowed and scarified.
I'
