An animal unit (AU) is <br />generally one mature cow of approximately 1,000 pounds and a calf <br />as old as 6 months of age, or their equivalent. An animal unit <br />month (A.U"1) is the amount of forage required b.y an animal unit for <br />one month. <br />Animal unit equivalents vary some•~rhat according to kind and size <br />of animals.
