Vanvalkenburg Gravel Pit
Exhibit E
Reclamation Plan
Reclamation of the permit area will re[um the site to a post mining land use of wildlife habitat and
rangeland.
At a minimum, the top l2" of topsoil will be stripped and stockpiled around the perimeter of the pit area.
Glass, shrubs, and small trees will be incorporated into the topsoil piles. Sufficient topsoil will be
maintained to cover all pas[ and future mining areas in the permit area to a depth of 6". Topsoil piles will
be revegetated with a mixture of native gasses to maintain topsoil viability and to prevent topsoil erosion.
Reclamation work will be sequenced ro follow along with mining. The majority of reclamation will
commence immediately upon final extraction of the mineral materials or prior [o permit expiration.
Reclamation will begin by reshaping and recontauring the staging area and pit area to conform with the
adjacent topography and natural landforms. This work will be completed by the Landowner. The work
will be done with a dozer and a scraper. Recontoured slopes will not exceed 3:1.
After recontouring, the substratum will be scarified with a ripper. Topsoil from the adjoining pIles will be
respread over all disturbed areas to a depth of at least 6" in preparation of a uniform seed bed. The site will
be seeded by the County with a mixture of native grasses recommended by the Soil Conservation District at
[he time of seeding. A tentative seed mixture recommended by the Soil Conservation District is attached.
Seed shall either be drill seeded or shall be broadcast seeded into fresh dozer cleat marks. If broadcast, llte
seed will be scratched into the soil. Seeding will occur after October I" and prior to soil freeze-up or any
accumulations of snow.
The Landowner will monitor the site on a montlily basis to determine revegetation success and to evaluate
the site stability. The Landowner will take any steps necessary to control soil erosion and repair damaged
]ands. If after one season the seeding looks as thought it will be a failure,The landowner will reseed the site
or portions of the site in accordance with this plan. After final reclamation approval by the landowner and
the State.
