~~
~'
SURFACE WATER
Trapper Mine monitored one stream site, nine active NPDES discharge sites and
two springs associated with NPDES sites during 1996. The stream site is Flume Gulch
(S1). Flow was observed at NPDES sites 001, 002, 006, 008, 009, 010, 011, 013 and 015
in 1996. Discharge below the Coyote Dam and East Pyeatt Pond No. 3 in 1996 was from
springs only with the exception of approximately one and three months of surface discharge
from their respective dams. The Coyote Spring is below the Coyote Dam outfall but above
NPDES site 005. Baseline stream site East Pyeatt (S3) is also NPDES site 011. Most sites
were visited weekly throughout the year. Plots of flow versus time of the year are
presented for those sites monitored by continuous recorders including sites NPDES 001,
002, 011, 013 and 015. Sites NPDES 003, 012, 014, 016 and 017 did not discharge during
1996. No semi-annual samples were collected from NPDES sites 009 and 013 because
discharge from both sites had ended when the samples were coNected in April. Maps No.
2-1 through 2-3 show the locations of these surface-water sites. Four Parshall flumes were
re-leveled in 1996, NPDES 008 and 010 on September 20, and 005 and 011 on September
27.
4.1 SURFACE-WATER FLOW
Flow measurements and samples were taken twice during 1996 for Flume Gulch
site S1. The 1996 flow data tabulated in Appendix C in Table C-1 is an instantaneous rate
associated with awater-quality sample.
Figure C-1 in Appendix C presents the flow versus time for NPDES site 001
~~. (Johnson Gulch). The peak flow in 1996 was earlier than in 1995 but similar in magnitude.
4-1
