~' .~ - - -.
SECTION I - GEOLOGY
~::_
General Description ~.'~. ~, -
The bedrock underlying the subject area is of the
Mesozoic Age, continental and manine sedimentary rocks.
In the lower part of the Cache La Poudre River basin, where
the subject property is located, the major floodplain and
valley-fill deposits constitute an excellent source of
commercial high quality mineral deposits.
Site Geology
The ground elevation (4675') of Reclamation Pit ~~1
is situated in the floodplain of the Cache La Poudre to the
North. The Weld County Planning llepartment and also the
Colorado Geological Survey has mapped and designated the
subject property as stream terrace deposits (floodplain)
containing relatively clean and sound gravels. A good
quality organic topsoil varies with depth across the property
averaging 8" to 2' throughout the reclamation area. The
overburden averages approximately six feet in depth.
The depth of mineral deposits range from 35 feet to
49 feet, interspersed with some clay and reject material
inbetween.
The bedrock slopes towards the Cache La Poudre River
with slight possibility of change because of proposed
mining.
Past and Present Mineral Extraction
There are no present mineral extraction activites on
the subject property. As described earlier, there is a
large mined-out area to the East of the proposed Reclamation
Pit Cpl. There are other completed and ongoing mineral
extraction sites in the area, especially along the river,
which makes this proposal of mineral resource recovery nor.
unique to the area.
Overburden Mat
A total of approximately 2,121,750 cubic yards of'over-
burden exists on subject property; 20% or about 530,000
cubic yards of the total is beliered to be organic topsoil.
The above amounts of overburden and topsoil will be
utilized in accomplishing the final reclamation of the area
as shown in the Reclamation Plan.
-11-
