Banks and Gesso, LLC
Water Quality Control Division. In the small areas where such diversion is impractical,
other types of BMPs such as silt fences, will be utilized for sediment control. As part of
the Colorado Discharge Permit System (CDPS), the site will be visually monitored
weekly to ensure water quality. Water will be sampled monthly with monitoring reports
submitted to CDPHE quarterly. All dewatering and washing operations will be
appropriately permitted.
The active mine pit and settling ponds will provide the majority of the sediment control
for the Permit Area. Best Management Practices (BMPs) will be utilized to either divert
runoff into these facilities for treatment or to provide ultimate sediment control, where
necessary. Examples of BMPs that will be used to divert runoff either into the pit or
settling pond include berms or small ditches.
Groundwater
There are water wells located on the subject property and several off-site wells located
within 600 feet of affected areas. Most wells in the vicinity are for irrigation purposes.
The applicant/operator commits to following rules and regulations of the Office of the
State Engineer regarding wells within 600 feet of the mining operation. Several wells in
the vicinity have been identified and included in the engineering evaluation of
groundwater effects. No water quality issues at these wells are anticipated to result from
the operation. The groundwater surface may be depressed at some wells in the
immediate vicinity of the site.
The operator continues to study groundwater effects and will pursue appropriate
mitigation strategies if significant effects are identified through the course of study.
Effects on groundwater may be mitigated through augmentation and/or engineering
(e.g., slurry wall to limit/prevent the exposure of groundwater).
Sundance Sand and Gravel Resource 06015
Lafarge West, Inc. 19 September 2006
