eh <br />ESPEY, HUSTON & ASSOCIATES, INC. <br />• <br />Refuse waste prepazation, topsoil replacement, fertilization, and seed- <br />bed prepazation aze reclamation operations important to the establishment of a <br />plant growth medium suitable for revegetation. The reclaimed soil profiles that will <br />be established will be pedologically and morphologically different than the native <br />soils at the site because of removal and mixing. Horizons replaced will be the result <br />of the sequence of topsoil replacement on the disturbed areas. The coal mine waste <br />rock/durable rock fill area will have a major interface within the plant growth <br />medium which is the interface occurring between the waste and replaced A horizon. <br />The haul road and sedimentation pond with associated hydrologic control <br />structures will require an interface with replaced A horizon to existing subsoil. <br />Stockpile azeas will also require an interface with the existing subsoil and replaced <br />A horizon. <br />The replacement A horizon will be obtained from three soil series. <br />• These soil series include: <br />o Barnette loam. <br />o Shawa loam. <br />o Straw silty clay loam. <br />A horizon material will be salvaged from all three soil series with Straw <br />soil series contributing an insignificant amount (see Fig. 13.S.Z). The mixing of the <br />soil series during topsoil removal should create chemical properties that aze similar <br />to those in the natural landscape. The minor variations in chemical constituents will <br />tend to average. A slightly acidic to neutral to slightly alkaline pH, low values for <br />electrical conductivity and sodium absorption ratios aze anticipated. An evaluation <br />of the soil series for soil reconstruction material rates the series good in all aspects. <br />Cation exchange should be sufficient for storage of essential plant nutrients. <br />• <br />13-20 <br />
