A moist meadow community exists adjacent to
Curtis Creek which contains sedges, rushes, and grass.
It is anticipated that through proper reclamation planning that the
mountain brush community can be reestablished on the embankments of the refuse
waste disposal pile with grassland communities established on the flat refuse pile
top, roadbed, sedimentation pond, and stockpile storage areas. By reestablishing
these communities the postmining land use will essentially remain the same as
currently exists and the land can be returned to livestock grazing and wildlife
habitat.
13.5.2 Topography
A topographic map depicting the final surface topographic configuration
• of the refuse disposal area is presented in Fig. 13.1.4. The premining topography,
shown on Fig. 13.1.2, is characterized by a relatively level surface adjacent to
Curtis Creek; slopes of approximately 12 percent in the valley bottom on the
southern portion of the mine plan azea; and slopes greater than 35 percent on the
northern portion of the mine plan area. The area adjacent to Curtic Creek will not
be disturbed so no topographic alteration will be made. The postmining configura-
tion of the valley bottom where the haul road, sedimentation pond, and topsoil
stockpiles are established will be reestablished to conform to premining conditions.
Because the refuse disposal pile will be a permanent feature, alteration of the
premining topographic surface will occur. With the addition of approximately
79,000 tons of waste mine rock, the area will be filled to elevation creating
embankment slopes of 4h:ly with a roughly flat top surface tieing into the steep
slopes on the northern and eastern portion of the mine plan area. Retopsoiling and
revegetation will follow active filling, as soon as practical, when lifts have been
established on the refuse pile.
u
13-18
