eh
ESPEY, HUSTON & ASSOCIATES, INC.
•
if such aze available (30 CFR 817.22(b)). Figure 13.5.2 details types of soil and
depths of the A horizon in the vazious azeas to be disturbed in this project. Clearly
the depth of A horizon specified is typical and will be subject to field verification at
the time of construction. This project is topsoil-rich due to the presence of large
azeas of the Shawa Loam. If the large project is approved, some o£ this soil
(approximately 50%) will be retained for use in azeas higher up the slope in which
topsoil is less plentiful. Topsoil will be placed in lazge lifts, not compacted, and
protected from erosion as discussed in Sec. 13.5. During the placement of waste
material, the topsoil stripping will proceed at least 100 feet in advance of the waste
placement.
13.4.1.2 The Sediment Pond
The sediment pond will be the first item of the construction sequence
(30 CFR 817.46(a)). The first step is to excavate the entire area delineated on
• Fig. 13.1.4 as the proposed sediment pond. This azea will be excavated to elevation
6978 feet MSL with the restriction that no slope will exceed 3H to 1V. The dike and
spillways will then be constructed by removing all surface vegetation and sod from
the surface. The exposed surface will be scazified to promote a good bond between
the existing ground and the dike. The fill material will be placed in lifts not to
exceed six inches compacted thickness and compacted to 95% ASTM D698 maximum
density.
•
13-i3 ~/~lif g7
