Figure 13.5.2 details types of soil and <br />depths of the A horizon in the vazious azeas to be disturbed in this project. Clearly <br />the depth of A horizon specified is typical and will be subject to field verification at <br />the time of construction. This project is topsoil-rich due to the presence of large <br />azeas of the Shawa Loam. If the large project is approved, some o£ this soil <br />(approximately 50%) will be retained for use in azeas higher up the slope in which <br />topsoil is less plentiful. Topsoil will be placed in lazge lifts, not compacted, and <br />protected from erosion as discussed in Sec. 13.5. During the placement of waste <br />material, the topsoil stripping will proceed at least 100 feet in advance of the waste <br />placement. <br />13.4.1.2 The Sediment Pond <br />The sediment pond will be the first item of the construction sequence <br />(30 CFR 817.46(a)). The first step is to excavate the entire area delineated on <br />• Fig. 13.1.4 as the proposed sediment pond. This azea will be excavated to elevation <br />6978 feet MSL with the restriction that no slope will exceed 3H to 1V. The dike and <br />spillways will then be constructed by removing all surface vegetation and sod from <br />the surface. The exposed surface will be scazified to promote a good bond between <br />the existing ground and the dike. The fill material will be placed in lifts not to <br />exceed six inches compacted thickness and compacted to 95% ASTM D698 maximum <br />density. <br />• <br />13-i3 ~/~lif g7 <br />
