Using the grain volume calculated for each core, the porosity
is found by;
P.V B.V - G.V
~ _ _
B.V B.V
(See core cutting work sheet).
Porosity from the Hg and Beckman pycnometer.
Hg pycnometer - used Hg displacement to determine the B.V of a
3
core - measures cm .
Beckman pycnometer - uses air displacement to determine
absolute or effective grain volume.
The B.V and G.V is measured for each core and ~ is calculated.
B.V Hg Pycno. - G.V Beckman
• ~ B.V Hg Pycno.
(See porosity work sheet).
Cores are next saturated with water using a vacuum pump system.
Approximately 22 inches of Hg Head is placed on vacuum over the
cores for one hour. H2O is allowed to trickle over the cores
after the pump is shut off. This sucks the air from the pores
and allows H2O to enter. Four cores are saturated with H2O.
Similar process is followed for saturating cores with Kerosene.
Two cores are saturated with Kerosene.
\J
7
