Box 1886
Woodland Park, Colorado 80866
RE: REQUEST FOR CONDITIONAL USE PERMIT BY FREMONT COUNTY - STATE
BOARD OF LAND COMMISSIONERS CONTROLLED PROPERTY, SECTION 16,
TOWNSHIP 16 SOUTH, RANGE 69 WEST OF THE 6th PRINCIPAL MERIDI-
AN, TELLER COUNTY, COLORADO
Dear Mr. Peterson,
Please accept this letter and attached documents as application for
a Conditional Use Permit in the Agricultural Zone (A-1). The
Conditional Use Permit request is for the operation of a open pit
gravel mine by the Fremont County District #2 road crew. The site
is located on property controlled by the State Board of Land
Commissioners, for which Fremont County has the sand and gravel
mining lease of the entire Section.
The site has been previously disturbed.
Fremont County intentions would be to operate the pit on an as
needed basis for the maintenance of Fremont County Road #67 (a.k.a.
Phantom Canyon Road - Teller County Road #86). The pit would be a
less than ten acre, less than seventy thousand ton per year
operation and would be a Limited Impact (110) Permit application
with the Division of Minerals and Geology at the State level.
Fremont County would prefer to obtain any local land use approvals,
that may be required, prior to pursuing the reclamation permit with
the Division of Minerals and Geology.
It is my understanding that tentative agreements have been reached
between Fremont County Road District #2 representatives and their
counterparts in Teller County as to operation of the pit and use of
materials generated from the pit.
The proposed site lyes adjacent to Teller County Road #86 and would
require travel of less than a one mile distance to the Fremont
County Boundary line and a distance of two miles to where Fremont
County's maintenance of Phantom Canyon Road begins.
