No significant damage seen at this location. Some
cracking in the mortar and block noted. Cracking of mortar may take place due to
blasting. This should not affect the performance of the home if the CMU courses are
properly grouted and reinforced. The wood structure should not be affected by blasting.
There were only very small areas that had sheetrock applied (bathroom).
Summary
Structures were evaluated to ascertain the current level of damage prior to blasting in a
nearby mining operation. Sixteen power pole foundations were evaluated and the
damage to them was found minimal. Future damage to the power pole foundations
should also be minimal. These structures should be routinely inspected during blasting
operations. Three metal buildings were inspected. These buildings were found to
appear satisfactory. No damage should occur to these structures due to blasting.
Concrete slabs were found in one metal shop building, a log home, and in an attached
garage. This concrete was currently cracked and should be expected to crack in the
future whether or not blasting takes place. The log home evaluated was in satisfactory
condition. Blasting should not affect the log structure but may cause some cracking of
underlying mortar. This cracking should not affect the structure if the block is properly
reinforced and grouted. A modular home over basement was inspected. The modular
and basement has numerous cracks in concrete and sheetrock apparently due to
• settlement
8
