The 290 people who live there are very carcerned nboru <br />poreniial conuuninution of their water wells. A[l have private wells. We know lhnt <br />gravel mining rompers with the water supply by removing water from the ground and <br />surface, causing vast amounts of evaporation and putting in chemicals used for dust <br />control, treating wastewater acrd dewatering. There is also diesel fieel (2,000 gallons per <br />year), and oil use on site drat could be spilled. Haw can residents of the town of Milner <br />be sure their wells will be safe from contmm~ration?" (Vnn Norstrand; 4/5/01) <br />Division Response -The applicant believes that off-road diesel fuel, 10-40W motor oil, <br />lubricating grease, hydraulic oil, antifreeze, and magnesium chloride will be used at the <br />Camilletti Milner Pit #2. Storage of any fuel, oil, or chemicals used at the mine site will be <br />located outside the boundaries of [he 100-year floodplains for [he Yampa River and Trout Creek. <br />Spill prevention and control from any accidental release of diesel fuel stored on site will be <br />accomplished by construction of earthen berms lined with a 30-mil polyliner. The berms will be <br />sized to contain all the volume of the storage tanks located within these berms. Lubricating <br />grease and hydaulic oil will be stored within a site maintenance building. Mining equipment will <br />no[ be permanently based at the mine site and will be serviced at the applicant's main service <br />area located at Hayden. The applicant has provided a spill prevention and countermeasures plan <br />for any chemical/products used or stored on site. <br />4. "Will the operation avoid unautJtorized release ojpol[utants to the surface drainage system <br />and tnimimize disturbances to surface water quality, including during 50- or I00-year flood <br />events, specifically with regards to petroleum products, dust control chemicals, and <br />sedimentation?"
