existing wildlife is unlikely. {Vildlife habitat creation or <br />improvement is not part of the reclamation plan. <br />If it is necessary to remove topsoil to reach the mineral <br />deposit, the topsoil will be stockpiled. If the soil is not <br />replaced in a backfilled area within a short enough time to avoid <br />deterioration, vegetative cover and other means will be employed <br />to preserve the topsoil from vrind and weather erosion and keep .it <br />free of contaminants so that it is useful for sustaining <br />vegetation when reclamation begins. Topsoil steckpiles will be <br />maintained to minimize erosion. The stockpiles vrill be located <br />in areas where disturbances by ongoing mining operations will be <br />at a minimum. The topsoil vrill be handled as little as possible <br />until it is replaced in a disturbed area. The operator will take <br />measurr_-s necessary to insure tt!e stability of the replaced <br />topsoil on graded slopes; spreading it as evenly es possible. <br />Fertilizer and cther soil rrnendments e:ill be used as required in <br />the 1?eclarution Plan or as soil tests indicate. <br />L'+here revegetetion is to occur, it will Le done in such a vray <br />as to establish a diverse, effective and long-lasting vegetative <br />cover that is capable of self-regeneration v:ithout continued <br />depenc:ence on irrigation, soil amendrents or fertilizers. The plan <br />is designed to create a vegetative cover that is at least equal in <br />extent to the cover of the natural vegetation of the surrounding <br />area.
