Doc Date:1211112001

Section 779.14(a) Continued.
III Illllllllllll 111 --- -~
Rule 2.04.6
activities. Modeling techniques were adapted from the OSM handbook
publication, Coal Mining and Reclamation Operations, Par 1, The
Determination of Lhe Probable Hydrologic Consequences, May 1980. The
specific modeling techniques used are explained in detail in Sections
779.15, 779.16 and 780.21. It should be noted that required surface
and ground water information was collected to provide site-specific
data and verifiable conclusions.
JI~ Section 779.14 Geology Description
•

(a) The description shall include a general statement of the geology
within the proposed mine plan area down to and including the first
aquifer to be affected below the lowest coal seam to be mined.
Introduction
The following discussion focuses on the geology of the Kerr mine area.
In the Kerr loadout area, there will be minimal disturbance of in-situ
materials since the loadout facilities are constructed on fill material
which will remain following reclamation. Accordingly, the discussion on
the geology of the loadout area is limited to the stratigraphy of the
first 25 feet below the land surface.
With respect to the Kerr mine area, the geology of all areas to be
disturbed by mine operations is described down to and including the
stratum below the lowermost coal seam to be mined. As discussed in
Section 779.15 the coal seam to be mined, known as the Sudduth Seam, is
the only aquifer to be disturbed. Boreholes drilled to a depth of 120
feet below the Sudduth Seam have encountered no other aquifers.
The Kerr Mine is located approximately ten (10) miles east of Malden,
Colorado on County Road 12E. The Kerr loadout facilities are located on
the southern edge of Walden, Colorado. The locations of both the mine and
loadout facilities are shown on Figure 1, General Location.
779-10a
Dnviced _ 11n..a 1
