Problem weeds will be
monitored closely each sprint; for the first two years to determine if they are invading the area.
Weed control will he initiated if the problem becomes serious. The Division will be consulted
regarding any weed infcslation area and any control measures prior to their initiation. It may be
necessary to control wceci.s l,y mowing after the first year; the feasibility ofchemical weed control
methods will be sfudiccl should it be necessary. In addition, a combination of mowing and
chemical means may he needed fo control the problem weeds. The plan does not contemplate total
weed removal on the property. Yast experience shows that some initial wced~ cover in the first year
following retopsoilint; is beneficial to the reclamation effort. Weeds tend to provide shade for new
grasses, are a means of holding snow on the seedbed longer and protect it from wind and water
erosion until the plantccl species have taken hold.
7. The SCS report shows a
total existing cover of 25~/u, but does not distinguish what percent of this cover are annuals and
weeds. Site investigations show that weeds do comprise a significant portion of the total cover.
Carol Ann Pormi~ CUM(. Applirxtion 31
I
