eh ESPEY, HUSTON & ASSOCIATES, INC. <br />• <br />Range in Chazacteristics: The A horizon will contain 0 to 15 percent <br />rock fragments of gravel to cobble in size in some azeas. The B horizon <br />ranges from clay loam to light clay in texture. Depth to the calcium <br />carbonate zone ranges from 18 to 30 inches. A4any rock fragments have <br />thin lime coatings on undersides. <br />Competing Series: Zoltay soils aze similaz to the Curecanti, Delson, <br />Pino, Work, and Shawa soils and are neaz Dollard, Forelle, Vanda, and <br />Work soils. Curecanti soils have more than 35 percent rock fragments by <br />volume. Curecanti, Delson, Pino, and Work soils all lack a deep dark <br />colored surface soil. Shawa soils do not have a textural B horizon and <br />have less than 35 percent clay in the control section. Dollazd soils are <br />20 to 40 inches to shale bedrock. Forelle and Vanda soils have light <br />colored surface layers. <br />• Geographic Setting: Zoltay soils aze on alluvial fans and upland slopes. <br />The mean annual precipitation is about 16 inches and the mean air <br />temperature is about 44°F. <br />3.2 SOIL MAP LEGEND <br />3.2.1 Map Units of the Northern No. 1 (FF-Seam) Mine Area <br />3.2.1.1 Jerry-Maurice-Rhone Complex, 8 to 65 Percent Slopes (X85) <br />The soils of this complex aze deep and well drained. Textures are fine, <br />loamy-skeletal, and loamy, respectively. They occur on broad, sloping to moder- <br />ately steep mountain sides at elevations between 7,000 and 8,400 feet, generally on <br />a northerly aspect. The average annual precipitatior. is about 16 inches and the <br />mean annual soil temperature is about 43oF.
