eh ESPEY, HUSTON BASSOCIATES, INC. <br />• <br />plastic; common roots; calcareous, few fine filaments of lime, <br />strongly alkaline; cleaz smooth boundary. (35 to 50 inches thick) <br />C2ca 49 to 60 inches; light brownish gray (2.5Y6/2) silty clay loam, dazk <br />grayish brown (2.SY4/2) moist; weak coarse prismatic, pazting to <br />moderate medium to coazse subangulaz blocky structure; hazd, firm <br />slightly sticky and slightly plastic; strongly clacazeous with visible <br />secondazy calcium cazbonate concretions; strongly alkaline. (0 to <br />32 inches thick) <br />Type Location: These soils aze located 0.2 mile south of NE corner <br />section 24, T.1N., R.g4W, in Montana. <br />Range in Chazacteristics: Cracks at dry seasons range from '/a to 34 inch <br />wide to depth of about 20 inches. The soil is calcareous throughout with <br />• depth to visible lime ranging from 28 to 60 inches. Fine crystals of <br />calcium sulfate and other salts are also present in some pedons usually at <br />depths below 20 inches. Rock fragments range from 0 to 10 percent <br />throughout but typically less than 3 percent. <br />The C horizon is somewhat stratified and ranges from silt loam to silty <br />clay or clay. The strata range from 2 to 20 inches thick. In some pedons <br />the lower portion of the C horizon has weak yellowish brown to dazk <br />brown mottling. <br />Competing Series: Vanda soils aze similaz to the' Abor and Dollazd soils <br />and aze neaz the Dollazd, Havre, and Patent soils. Abor and Dollazd soils <br />have a pazalithic contact at a 20 to 40 inch depth. Havre and Patent <br />soils have between 18 and 35 percent clay and Havre soils have an <br />irregulaz decrease of organic matter with depth. <br />• <br />I-44 <br />
