eh ESP'cY, HUSTON & ASSOCIATES, INC. <br />• <br />fine pores; few fine masses of segregated lime; strongly efferve- <br />scent; moderately alkaline (pH 8.0); gradual wavy boundary. <br />C2 38 to 54 inches; light brownish gray (2.SY6/2) silt loam, dazk <br />grayish brown (2.SY4/2) moist; massive; hazd, very friable, slightly <br />sticky and slightly plastic; few fine and very fine roots; common <br />fine and very fine pores; strongly efferevescent; moderately <br />alkaline (pH 83); cleaz smooth boundazy. <br />IIC3 54 to 66 inches; light brownish gray (10YR6/2) loamy sand, dazk <br />grayish brown (10YR4/2) moist; massive; soft, very friable, <br />nonsticky and nonplastic; strongly effervescent; mildly alkaline (pH <br />7.6). <br />• Type Location: These soils aze located 500 feet south and 100 feet west <br />of the NE corner of the SE3i of section 25, T.18N., R.6E, in Cascade <br />County, Montana. <br />Ranl;e in Chazacteristics: The mollic epipedon ranges from 16 to 40 <br />inches thick. The 10- to 40-inch control section averages 20 to 35 <br />percent clay. Some pedons have thin lenses of sandy loam and loamy <br />sand at depths of less than 40 inches. The soil is usually calcareous <br />throughout but some pedons are noncalcazeous in the upper 7 inches. <br />The hue of the soil is lOYR or 2.SY. <br />The A horizon has value of 3 through 5 dry and 2 or 3 moist. It is loam, <br />silt loam, clay loam or sandy clay loam. In some pedons, lime threads, <br />films, and nodules aze present in the lower part of the A12 horizon and in <br />the C horizon. Some pedons have old buried A horizons in the underlying <br />material. The C horizon has lenses of nonconforming texture in some <br />• <br />I-41 <br />
