eh <br />ESPEY, HUSTON &ASSOCIATES, INC. <br />• <br />B2 13 to 24 inches; dazk brown (10YR4/3) very gravelly fine sandy <br />loam, dark brown (10YR4/3) moist; massive; soft, friable, nonsticky <br />and nonplastic; common very fine roots; moderately alkaline; <br />gradual boundary. <br />C1 24 to 60 inches; light brownish gray (IOYR6/2) very gravelly fine <br />sandy loam, grayish brown (10YR5/2) moist; very few very fine <br />roots; common, distinct, cleaz fine sand grains; mildly alkaline. <br />The B and C horizons aze 5 to 15 percent clay and 40 to 60 percent <br />gravel and cobblestones. <br />Type Location: These soils aze located 1,800 feet west and 1,250 feet <br />north of SE corner of Section 20, T.SS., R.21E, in Montana. <br />• Geographic Setting: Maurice soils aze on floodplains, stream terraces <br />and fans. Annual precipitation is 15 to 19 inches. The frost-free period <br />ranges from 90 to 110 days with a mean annual soil temperature from <br />43°F to 47°F. <br />Drainage and Permeability: These soils aze well drained, with low or <br />moderate available water capacity and rapid permeability. In places the <br />water table is within 24 inches of the surface during the irrigation <br />season. <br />Use and Vegetation: These soils aze used mostly for grass hay. A small <br />acreage is used as range. The natural vegetation is mixed grasses, forbs, <br />shrubs, cottonwood trees, and a few pines. <br />• <br />I-20 <br />
