eh <br />ESPEY, HUSTON &ASSOCIATES, INC. <br />• <br />Distribution and Extent: The series is of moderate extent in moun- <br />tainous areas of Colorado. <br />Series Established: <br />The series was established in Gunnison County, <br />Colorado in 1975. <br />3.1.7 Maurice Series <br />The Maurice Series consists of deep, neazly level to steep soils formed in <br />deep gravelly and cobbly alluvium. <br />In a representative profile the surface layer is dazk grayish brown stony <br />loam and loam about 13 inches thick. The subsoil is dazk brown very gravelly fine <br />sandy loam about 11 inches thick. The substratum is light brownish gray very <br />• gravelly fine sandy loam 36 inches thick or more. <br />Typical Pedon: Maurice soils consist of stony loam. <br />All 0 to 3 inches; dazk grayish brown (10YR4/2) stony loam, very dazk <br />grayish brown (10YR3/2) moist and coatings of very dazk gray <br />(10YR3/1) moist; fine granulaz structure; soft, friable, nonsticky <br />and nonplastic; many fine and very fine roots; neutral; cleaz, wavy <br />boundazy. <br />A12 3 to 13 inches; dark grayish-brown (10YR4/2) loam, very dazk <br />brown (10YR2/2) moist and coatings of black (10YR2/1) moist; <br />weak prismatic structure pazting to medium and fine angulaz <br />blocky, slightly hazd, friable, slightly sticky and slightly plastic; <br />many fine and very fine roots; faint clay films; neutral; cleaz <br />boundary. <br />• <br />I-19 <br />
