eh
ESPEY, HUSTON & ASSOCIATES, INC.
•
Range in Characteristics: The A horizon will range from very fine sandy
loam to clay loam with a relatively high organic matter content. Rock
fragments range from 0 to 15 percent to a depth of 3 feet. These
fragments are usually less than 1 inch across and 3: inch thick. Below 3
feet the rock fragments may range up to 30 percent in some pedons and
will range up to 3 inches across and 1'~4 inches thick. Aay contracting
substrata or bedrock occur below a 40 inch depth. Reaction ranges from
neutral in the surface to mildly alkaline in the subsoil.
Competing Series: Clayburn soils are similaz to the Adel, Cochetopa,
Rhone and Shawa soils. Adel and Shawa soils do not have the textural B
horizon. Shawa soils also occur in a wazmer temperature zone.
Cochetopa soils have subsoils which have between 35 and 45 percent
clay. Rhone soils do not have azgillic horizons.
• Geographic Setting: Clayburn soils aze on mountain slopes and ridge
tops, with elevations from 7,500 to 8,600 feet. Average annual
precipitation is about 18 inches, mean annual temperature is about 42°F,
and the frost-free season is less than 80 days.
Drainage and Permeability: Clayburn soils are well drained. They have
amoderately slow permeability with a high available water capacity.
Use and Vegetation: This soil supports rangeland grazing and wildlife
habitat. Natural vegetation is dominantly open sagebrush, rather lazge
Gambel oak, and grass parks.
3.1.5 Dollard Series
The Dollazd series consists of moderately deep soils that formed in
material weathered from shale.

I-12
