_~ •
,R~VEGETATION PLAN
Jeokina Pit Pit No. 2,
Permit No. M-77-393
~~

Prepared by Roy Bell, Open Space Resourse Specialist, 10/24/96
Review/revised by Dave Buclyner, Ph'D, ESCO, 11-7-96
SEEDBED SPECIFICA~q``NS
Preparation of a seedbed may be accomplished with any of a number of implements,
usually requiring several operations. The objective is to loosen the soil as deep as possible
(a minimum of eight inches), reducing clods and firming the soil to provide maximum
seed-to-soil contact. In addition to facilitation of germination of seeds, the seedbed should
provide conditions conducive to plant root development. Tillage should be performed and
timed in a manner that minim;~es erosion, conserves soil moisture and takes advantage of
the presence of plant residue if it exists. The final seedbed should be firm, fritible and weed
free.
SEEDBED PREPARATION
Seedbed should be well settled, fum, and friable, to facilitate seed placement at required
depths. The area should be weed-free (accomplished by ripping prior to seeding). Should
ripping or chiseling be required, it will be done on the contour. Harrowing rc~ay be
required after ripping to create a firm bed.
SEEDING METHODS
Seed should be planted with a drill operated on the contour on all slopes of 3 3% (3:1) or
flatter. The drill must meet specifications for the type of seed and seeding rates
recommended. Seed may be broadcast by hand, by mechanical spreader, or b~~ hydraulic
equipment on areas that are small, or too steep and/or inaccessible for seed-drilling.
Broadcast seed should be raked, harrowed or otherwise worked to provide average by
soil. Hydraulic application of seed and mulch in a single operation is not acceptable.
SEEDING RATES
Seeding rates included in the attached tables are for drill seeding. U seed is broadcast,
the rates must be doubled.
SEEDING DEPTH
Seed planted with a drill should be placed between'/: inch and'/. inch below the surface.
Broadcast seed should be incorporated into the surface soil by raking or harrowing at
ATTACHMENT A
