Water Ouality. Surface water Site SW-N104 lies on the West Lateral irrigation ditch just
• upstream of the northeastern boundary of the Nucla East mining area (see Exhibit 7-1).
Monitoring of water quality at this site (when the ditch is on) has been conducted on a
monthly basis since July of 1986. Water quality data collected at this site since 1986 is
contained in Appendix 7-9. Table 7-55 is a statistical summary of the water quality data
gathered at SW-N104. A trilinear plot (Piper diagram) of the distribution of major ions
from samples collected at this site is presented in Appendix 7-8. Figure 7-38 is a
Schoeller diagram of mean milliequivalent values for the major anions and cations.
The irrigation water sampled over time at SW-N104 exhibits a calcium bicarbonate sulfate
type (see Appendix 7-8). Figure 7-38 graphically portrays the relative mean
milliequivalent values that characterizes the water type, showing that calcium,
bicarbonate and sulfate are the predominate ions that typify irrigation Ovate r'at SW-N104.
The mean pH value at SW-N104 is 8.09, ranging from 7.71 up to 8.42. TDS averages only 179
mg/1, and ranges between 116 and 264 mg/1. TSS averages 56 mg/1, varying from 8.0 to 106
mg/1. FeT, FeD and MnT average 1.21 mg/1, .02 mg/1 and .04 mg/1, respectively.
• Surface water Site SW-N105 lies about midway between Sites SW-N104 and SW-N106 on the West
Lateral (see Exhibit 7-1). Water quality data collected at this site since 1986 have been
compiled and are presented in Appendix 7-9. Table 7-56 is a statistical summary of the
water quality data gathered at SW-N705. A trilinear plot (Piper diagram) of the
distribution of major ions for Site SW-N105 can be found in Appendix 7-8. Figure 7-39 is
a Schoeller diagram of mean milliequivalent values for the major ions determined for Site
SW-N105.
The water type determined at Site SW-N105 is a calcium bicarbonate sulfate (see Appendix
7-8). Figure 7-39 shows the dominate proportions (mean milliequivalent values) of the
calcium, bicarbonate and sulfate ions.
The pH averages 8.04 at SW-N105, and falls between 7.72 and 8.42 unilts. The mean value
determined for TDS is 185.7 mg/1, and TDS ranges from 142 to 278 mg/1. TSS averages 67
mg/1, and ranges from 4.0 to 204 mg/1. FeT, FeD and MnT averages 1.48 mg/1, .02 mg/1 and
.OB mg/1, respectively.
• Site SW-N106 is the most downstream surface water site established on the West Lateral
7-175 Revised 04/11/88
