Monitoring pins will remain in place for future reference.
Maintenance. Haul roads are inspected on a daily work basis. If, upon inspection, it is determined
that repairs are needed, appropriate repairs such as, but not limited to, blading, filling of potholes,
replacement of the road surfaces, revegetation of side slopes and watering for dust control, will be
conducted as necessary.
Retention. SCC proposes to leave some of the existing haul roads as permanent access roads in the
permit area (approximately 8.0 milesl. The proposed permanent sections of haul roads (shown on
Exhibits 20-2 and 20-2A) include:
• Haul Road G -begins at County Road 53 and proceeds southeast to the beginning of Ridgeline
access road. (1.5 mi.)
• Mine Entrance Haul Road -begins at County Road 53 and proceeds generally southeast tb the
beginning of Haul Road A. 11.6 mi.) •
Haul Road A -begins at the south end of the Mine Entrance Haul Road and proceeds generally
to the southeast to the west end of Haul Road H. (1.5 mi.)
• Haul Road H -begins at the east end of Haul Road A and extends generally to the east tb the
south end of the Ridgeline access road. (0.7 mi.)
Haul Road J -intersects with Haul Road H and proceeds southward to join with Haul Rcad K
via a shott section of a connector access road. (1.5 mi.)
+ Flan! Road K - corrriru.+es southward Tram the cortrrector access road to ?he soufhem errd of
the II-W mining area. (7.2 mi.)
SCC is requesting approval for retention of these haul roads as postmining structures. Copies of the
written requests from the landowners are presented in TAB 3, Adjudication File, Appendix 3-7,
Landowner Requests for Permanent Roads.
These roads will increase the utilization of the reclaimed and surrounding areas. When a haul road is no
longer needed for operations, Peabody proposes the following:
a. The top road surface will be narrowed to 20 feet
b. TTie road surfacing material from tfie narrowing of tfie section wi1T be placed on tfie remaining •
road width
c. Slopes flatter than 3H:1 V will be retopsoiled
d. All areas redisturbed by road narrowing activities will be reseeded to the edge of road surface.
TR-42 27a Revised 9/03
