Section 779.20 (c) Continued.
• Shannon-Weaver Diversity indices were calculated according to the
general formula given by Poole (1974):
Hl = -~,s Pi log pi
where i=1
Where "s" is the number of species and "Pi" is the proportion of
the total number of individuals representing the "ith" species.
Herpetofauna - Reptiles and Amphibians
Field biologists were watchful for herpetofauna activity throughout
all field investigations. All opportunistic observations were
recorded in field notes.
Methodologies Employed, Aquatic Flora and Fauna
• Benthic macro invertebrates
aquatic fauna for Fish Cre
Trout Creek was determined
the following categories:
common and abundant (Wentz
and Macrophytes. Relative abundance of
.k, and for Middle Creek where it joins
during the summer of. 1972 according to
absent, present, present to common,
(1974)).
Additional investigations were conducted for Energy Fuels during
July, August, and September, 1975 at the seven locations shown on
the Twentymile Park Mammalian Observations (Map 17). The lower
Fish Creek and Piiddle Creek stations were the same sites sampled by
Wentz (1974). At each location macrophyte cover was sampled using
a minimum of seven, 0.25 square meter quadrats. All samples were
preserved in the fie]d with 70 percent Ethanol. Rose bengal dye
was added (10 ml/1) as a staining agent to facilitate separating
the macroinvertebrates from debris. Organisms were then identified
to the taxonomic level of family and counted. A diversity index
• was calculated from each Surber sample using the Shannon-Weaver
function.
779-143
