Section 779.20 (c) Continued.
• Following that meeting a wildlife sampling proposal was solicited
from Ecology Consultants, Inc. for the conduct of a detailed site
specific wildlife habitat investigation on the mine plan and
adjacent areas. On March 9th, a meeting was held in Denver between
representatives of Energy Fuels, the CDOW and the USFWS to review
the adequacy of the proposal. Based upon the recommendations
obtained, a formal sampling program was initiated. On April 24,
1979, further contact occurred with a trip into the mine plan and
adjacent areas by the local representative of the CDOW and a repre-
sentative of Energy Fuels to look for sage grouse strutting grounds.
The last coordinating meeting which occurred prior to the intensive
summer field work was on June 4th when representatives of the
CDOW and USFWS transversed the area looking for elk.
As a result of the numerous contacts with state and federal officials,
• review of existing literature and intensive site specific analysis,
the following fish and wildlife resource information is presented.
Fish and Wildlife Habitat Study
Regional Setting. The fish and wildlife of the region encompassing
the mine plan and adjacent areas form a diverse complex of various
mammals, birds, fish, amphibians, reptiles and insects. A number
of environmental factors such as soils, vegetation and climate,
influence the distribution, composition, and population of the
fauna within the region. While several smaller species of animals
are closely tied to particular habitats, larger ones range over the
region and may be found in different habitats depending upon climatic
conditions and the season of the year.
• 779-134
