Section 779.20 Fish and wildlife resources information.
L_J
(a) Each application shall include a study of fish and wildlife and
their habitats within the proposed mine plan area and the portions of
the adjacent areas where effects on such resources may reasonably be
expected to occur.
As demonstrated in Section 779.22, the proposed mine plan area is
range for several species of game and con[ains other wildlife
resources. Consequently, extensive investigations of fish and
wildlife resources and other habitats, both within the mine plan
and adjacent areas, have been concluded. A comprehensive wildlife
survey on the mine plan area was performed in 1975 for Energy Fuels
(Dames and Moore (1975)). Results of this investigation along with
additional information on wildlife resources were presented in the
Northwest Colorado Coal Environmental Statement (USDI (1977)).
Detailed habitat requirements of all major wildlife species on the
mine plan area were presented by the U. S. Fish and 4lildlife Service
• (USDI-FWS-OBS (1978)). The supplement to the Northwest Colorado
Coal Environmental Statement prepared in 1978 presented additional
site specific data on the wildlife resources (USDI (1978)). Still,
additional information on wildlife resources on the mine plan and
adjacent areas was presented by the Environmental Assessment Report
prepared by the USDI, Bureau of Land Management (1979) for proposed
Federal Coal Leases C-22644 and C-26913 in the Eckman Park area.
(b) Prior to initiating such studies, the applicant shall contact the
regulatory authority to determine what fish and wildlife resources
information will be required.
Throughout the course of fish and wildlife resource investigations
conducted by Energy Fuels, every effort has been made to coordinate
with State and Federal wildlife agencies having responsibility for
managing wildlife habitat. The responsible agencies have had
substantial previous experience with respect to the mine plan and
• adjacent areas. The necessity for additional site specific fish
779-132
