Colorado (see Drawing: SWMP.DWG). The elevation of
the portal and surface facilities is approximately
6350 feet.
The Eastside Mine is an underground coal mine
producing coal from the "E" seam located in the
Grand Hogback. Other coal seams may be developed
in the future from the same surface location and
facilities. Coal is extracted from the face using
continuous miners which load coal into the diesel
haulage units. The diesel haulage units transport
coal outside where it is processed and stockpiled.
The coal is then loaded into trucks for transport
to the loadout facility or ultimate user.
The diesel storage tanks are filled by mobile fuel
tank delivery trucks. Fuel for the mobile diesel
equipment and 250 Kw generator is taken from the
300 gallon storage tank. The 450 Kw generator uses
fuel from the 500 gallon storage tank.
b. Preventative Facilities
1. The 500 gallon diesel storage tank is
surrounded by an earthen berm approximately
two feet high. The berm is large enough to
contain the total volume of the 500 gallons
should the tank rupture and/or leak.
2. The 300 gallon waste oil storage tank is
surrounded by an earthen berm approximately
two feet high. The berm is large enough to
contain the total 300 gallons should the tank
rupture and/or leak.
3. The 300 gallon diesel storage tank is
surrounded by a cinder block wall
approximately two feet high. The wall will
contain the entire 300 gallons should the tank
rupture and/or leak.
4. Diesel delivery trucks traveling the mine
access road and the surface facility create
the potential for a diesel spill. The runoff
from the surface facilities is collected by
the collection ditch CD-1 and is routed to the
sediment pond SP-1. The spilled diesel will
..--: .'.e reclaims= ._oc. ---_ ___.m_..;. --= ~,_ci~
~` L+...~,..
absorbent materials and or a vacuum service.
The fuel storage tanks will be examined on a daily
basis by operating personnel.
