EXHIBIT D - Mining Plan - See also Mining/Mi11inR Plan Map
a. The only method of mining engaged in at the Standard Metals' Sunny-
side Mine is termed shrink stoping, with the total excavation operation
taking place nearly 2,000 feet below the ground surface. The operation
is thus unrelated to any surface disturbance, except for the area surround-
ing the active American Tunnel portal area, which may be classified as a
moderately disturbed area. (See map - Exhibit D - American Tunnel Portal
Area.)
The milling and tailings disposal methods are explained with foot-
notes on accompanying Exhibit D - Mining/Milling Plan map. The only
other active disturbed area of the affected lands is Tailings Pond
No. 4, and the stages of the milling operation development is related only
to that pond's development. (See map)
• b. There will be no earthmoving related to surface disturbance asso- /
ciated with the actual mining operation. The only earthmoving that will V
be encountered in the milling operation will be seen in the tra~isporta-
tion of tailings to Pond No. 4, and in the excavat1ioan of runoff diversion
ditches at locations above the affected lands." ~ h~7c~ ,~~e-~-~l~s -
c. There will be no owater diversion or impoundment encountered in the
mining operation. ~ ~~ n~a~~ "~~
• The milling operation diverts water (under applied-for and existing
water rights) at two locations. Both diversions enter pipelines:; one in
Boulder Gulch for revegetation irrigation purposes, and the oths~r in
Arastra Gulch for milling purposes.
The milling operation impounds water only in the tailings disposal
area. The impoundment is formed on Pond No. 4 by the coarse fra.ctiona
of tailings being cyclone separated, forming the pond embankment to con-
tain slime fractions and water. The water is then decanted from. the top
of Pand No. 4 and piped to settling ponds. - !'~~~ ~~~ ~ S 1 d- -= ~ .
_.1 ~~ ~
l
-9-
.~
r~
