E~c1~IIBIT E - Reclamation P1~(Cont) •
The phase sequence of the reclamation plan is as follows:
I. Stabilization
A. Installation of snow fences.
1. Down tailings slopes, perpendicular to prevailing winds.
2. Along top perimeters of tailings ponds.
B. Application of cementing agent (lignosulfonate).
1. Application rate is 9:1 mixture of water to lignosite
at .5 gal/sq yd.
2. Application period is just after seeding on planted
areas. Areas not planted can be sprayed any time for
control of wind erosion.
C. Irrigation of areas where sprinkling system is completed.
1. Used to control wind erosion.
• 2. Preparation of seedbed by saturation.
II. Establishment of pioneer communities through seeding.
A. Seedbed preparation.
1. Construction of furrows across tailings slopes.
2.. Deposition of stockpiled peat in furrows.
B. Fertilization of areas ready for seed.
1. Initial fertilization, applying 50 lbs of available nitrogen,
and 40 lbs of available phosphorous per acre.
2. Additional fertilization of 20 lbs of available nitrogen per
acre at monthly intervals.
C. Seeding of prepared areas by hand broadcasting using Alpine Mix
and Mountain Mix (see enclosed list for species and applic.stion
rates of each).
III. Establishment of secondary successional communities (i.e., (orbs, shrubs
and trees).
A. Transplanting of native and introduced forbs and shrubs.
B. Transplanting of native tree species.
C. Supplementary seeding with grass mixes.
-23-
