E~c1~IIBIT E - Reclamation P1~(Cont) • <br />The phase sequence of the reclamation plan is as follows: <br />I. Stabilization <br />A. Installation of snow fences. <br />1. Down tailings slopes, perpendicular to prevailing winds. <br />2. Along top perimeters of tailings ponds. <br />B. Application of cementing agent (lignosulfonate). <br />1. Application rate is 9:1 mixture of water to lignosite <br />at .5 gal/sq yd. <br />2. Application period is just after seeding on planted <br />areas. Areas not planted can be sprayed any time for <br />control of wind erosion. <br />C. Irrigation of areas where sprinkling system is completed. <br />1. Used to control wind erosion. <br />• 2. Preparation of seedbed by saturation. <br />II. Establishment of pioneer communities through seeding. <br />A. Seedbed preparation. <br />1. Construction of furrows across tailings slopes. <br />2.. Deposition of stockpiled peat in furrows. <br />B. Fertilization of areas ready for seed. <br />1. Initial fertilization, applying 50 lbs of available nitrogen, <br />and 40 lbs of available phosphorous per acre. <br />2. Additional fertilization of 20 lbs of available nitrogen per <br />acre at monthly intervals. <br />C. Seeding of prepared areas by hand broadcasting using Alpine Mix <br />and Mountain Mix (see enclosed list for species and applic.stion <br />rates of each). <br />III. Establishment of secondary successional communities (i.e., (orbs, shrubs <br />and trees). <br />A. Transplanting of native and introduced forbs and shrubs. <br />B. Transplanting of native tree species. <br />C. Supplementary seeding with grass mixes. <br />-23- <br />
