REVEGETATION - Consldering the climate, topography and land use designations of the
vicinity, it was decided that establishment of forest habitat was the best form of
reclamation. Establishment of indigenous and introduced plant species is desired
to create a stable and diverse community in which natural succession can occur.
Techniques of seedbed preparation used in this reclamation plan for initial vegetation
establishment have proven successful at this site. After one planting season, pioneer
communities are doing well without continued soil amendments. Another four years
will be required on these initial reclamation sites to determine ecosystem stability,
though.
