Getches, Executive Director
r~
MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION
DAVID C.SH ELTO N, Director
April 1, 1986
Mr. Dick Hines
Colorado Division of Highways
4340 E. Louisiana
Denver, Colorado 80222
Re: BLM Olathe Pit
File N M-86-031
09
Dea r -~4r--H#ner~
I have completed Iqy adequacy review of the 110 permit application for the BLM
Olathe Pit and have a few questions and comments which I have organized on an
exhibit-by-exhibit basis below. Any exhibit or part thereof not mentioned is
considered adequate for Board approval during the scheduled April 23-24, 1986
meeting. Please respond to this letter at your earliest convenience, but
certainly by no later than April 18, 1986. In this way, I can review your
responses and comment, if necessary, prior to the Board meeting. This
application can, most probably, go to the Board as a "no problem" matter.
As always, before the Board can consider this application, I will need to
receive, review and approve the proofs of publication and notifications to
the BLM and all adjacent landowners (if any). Please send me these items as
soon as they are available.
Exhibits B and C
1. What will be the locations of the topsoil stockpiles on the permit
G~%~ area? These stockpiles should be placed well away from the active
mining area (but within the permit area) and kept out of drainage
areas. The locations can either be described or shown on a copy of the
map.
What perennial grass cover crop will be seeded on the topsoil
stockpiles? Please give species, seeding method and seeding rates.
3. What is the estimated life of this mining operation?
~/ 4. Although your final mining configuration is quite clear, the depth of
/~ mining is difficult to estimate from your plan. Please clarify this
depth of mining.
423 Centennial Building, 1313 Sherman Street Denver, Colorado 80203 Tel. (303) 866-3567
z
