2. The pit area will encompass slightly less than 5 acres of the 9.5 total acres within the
proposed permit area. A 75 foot buffer zone will lie between [he excavated pit area and the
San Juan River to the East. This buffer zone will remain undisturbed. Truck and equipment
traffic, other that that necessary for reclamation purposes will not be allowed in this buffer
zone.
3. There are no shop, office or maintenance buildings presently onsite or proposed.
4. A portable crusher/screening plant will be mobilized to process material at this site. The
entire planned mine pit area will be excavated processed and stockpiled during a single
crusher mobilization to the site. All material will be handled onsite using bulldozers and
front-end loaders to temporarily stockpile and load to haul trucks. Material stockpiles for
commercially available material will be located on the northwest side of the mine
pidreclaimed pond area. Approximately 40% of the processed material will be reserved for
road construction activities on the Mask Ranch. This material will be stockpiled outside the
proposed permit area.
5. There will be no under ground openings such as ventilation facilities or adits. The operation
will be an open pit opemtion.
(f) Dimensions of any significant disturbance to land surface.
Pit excavations -Mining will begin at the south end of the site and proceed toward the north
end. A settlement pond/sump will be installed in the south end of the excavated area to
collect any intercepted groundwater seepage. The depth of excavation will be to the
underlying Mancos Shale basement and will average 8 to 12 feet BGL (after topsoil removal)
to an average elevation of 7080 +/- feet AMSL. The initial crusher mobilization to the site
will mine the entire planned pit area of approximately 5 acres and process and stockpile an
estimated 60,000 tons of material within the permit area.
2. There will be no mine benches or impoundments. A sump/settlement pond will be installed
m the south pit area to collect groundwater seepage.
3. Material stockpiles for commercially available materials will be located [o the northwest of
the pit area. Stockpiles for Mask Ranch road gravel and base materials will be located on
adjacent Mask Ranch property outside of the proposed permit area to the west.
4. There will be no waste rock or disposal aeeas.
(g) Dimensions of any existing or proposed roads that will be used for the mining operations
The existing private road which accesses the owner's property off Archuleta County Road
119 is 16 feet wide and has a good gravel surface. Any repairs, maintenance or improvements
will be done by the owner. A commercially rated bridge crosses the San Juan River to access
the permit area as well as other areas of the Mask Ranch. Silt fences and sediment retention
berths or ditches will be maintained alongside roads and excavation areas to reduce erosion
and limit runoff from storm events.
(h) Water to be used in conjunction with the operations and the source.
Water required, if any, would be for occasional watering of the haul road and ramp areas. ]t is
estimated that 1000 to 2000 gallons of water per day would be necessary for watering haul
road and ramp aeeas depending on weather conditions. The owner has sufficient available
water rights [o supply this minimal amount.
