surface and prevent public access. The seals will be placed within the
entry near the surface and the remaining exposed entry will be
backfilled during backfilling activities in the portal face-up area.
BACKFILLING PORTAL FACE-UP AREA AND SEDIMENTATION POND/CATCHMENT BASIN
Peerless has utilized an area left exposed by previous mining operations
and has performed some initial work to provide a stable portal face-up
area. Upon mine closure, the portals will be sealed as previously noted
and a D-8K dozer and one or more 6216 scrapers will be utilized to
backfill the portals and cover the exposed coal seams. The backfill
material will be approximately 25 feet in height at the face and slope
to the west at a 3:1 slope to ensure stability and minimize erosion. As
previously noted, concrete rubble from facility foundations will be
placed at the base of the fill. This will be covered with material from
the containment berm for Ditch No. 1 and excess cut material from the
facilities area. A minor amount of excess cut material from the
facilities area will be placed immediately adjacent to the sedimentation
pond/catchment basin area to be used for backfilling when this area is
reclaimed. Upon completion of reclamation, when these facilities are no
longer required for sediment control, the sediment pond and catchment
basin will be backfilled and graded by pushing the stockpile material
from the facilities area as well as the road which is immediately above
the sedimentation pond into the impoundment area and recontouring the
entire area to blend with the surrounding terrain.
SITE RECONTOURING AND GRADING
Once all structures have been removed and backfilling has been
completed, the entire site will be recontoured to provide drainage,
minimize erosion, and blend with the surrounding terrain. A D-SK dozer
will be utilized to recontour the site to the configuration shown on the
Postmining Topography Map (Map 4). A 12G motor grader will be used in
conjunction with the dozer to grade the site to its final configuration.

-5-
