A 12 9-23 inches dark grayish brown (10 YR 4/2) sandy clay loam, very dark grayish brown (10 YR 3/2) moist; tew tine prominent (5 YK 4/6) mottles; weak very fine subangvlar blocky structure parting to very fine single grain; loose, very friable; slightly sticky and slightly plastic; common fine and very fine roots, few medium and coarse roots; non-calcareous; pH 6.4; gradual smooth boundary. • AC 23-50 inches grayish brown (10 YR 5/2) sandy clay loam, very dark brown (10 YR 2/2) moist; tew medium distinct (10 YR 4/6) mottles; moderate fine angular blocky structure; slightly hard, very friable; slightly sticky and slightly plastic; few fine and very fine roots; non-calcareous; pH 6.7; gradual smooth boundary. C I g 50-64+ inches gray (10 YR 5/ I) sandy loam, very dark grayish brown (10 YR 3/2) moist; common medium distinct (10 YR 4/6) mottles; weak fine angular blocky structure parting to fine single grain; loose, very friable; slightly sticky and slightly plastic; few fine roots; non-calcareous; pH 6.9. The surface layer is deeper in this pedon than the typic pedon, and contains more sand than most pedons described. The clay content of the control section of this pedon is only slightly coarser (I%) than allowed for the Venable.
