The texture ranges from silty
clay loam to gravelly sandy loam, with stratified colors. Water table depth is
dependent upon physiographic position. Standing water was encountered at depths of
32 inches to greater than 60 inches.
VENABLE TYPIC PEDON PROFILE //
Loam OS-04-20-056
A typical pedon (05-04-20-056) of the venable loam, 2 to 8 percent slope afine-
loamy, Cumulic Cryoquoll at 6,702 feet elevation, 810 feet west, 2,600 feet north,
southeast corner Section 14, T.SN R.86W is:
Al I 0-8 inches grayish brown (10 YR 5/2) clay loam, very dark grayish
brown (10 YR 3/2) moist; strong very fine angular blocky structure;
hard, firm; sticky and plastic; common very tine roots; slightly
calcareous; pH 7.1; clear wavy boundary.
• A12 8-21 inches brown (10 YR 5/3) fine sandy clay loam, very dark
grayish brown (10 YR 3/2) moist; moderate tine angular blocky
structure; friable; sticky and plastic; few medium roots, very tew
coarse roots; slightly calcareous; common taint fine dark brown (IU
YR 3/3) mottles; thin sand lenses; pH 7.3; clear smooth boundary.
Clg 21-35 inches medium dark gray (N3) silty clay loam, very dark
grayish brown (10 YR 3/2) moist crushed; friable; sticky and
plastic; few fine and medium roots; common fine prominent (2.4
YR 3/6, 7.5 YR 4/4) mottles; slightly calcareous; pH 7.3; standing
water at 35 inches.
The water table depth is closer to the surface in this pedon due to landscape
position.
